Michael Jordan is scoring in endorsements just like he scored in basketball. Even in retirement, Michael Jordan makes about 40 million dollars a year in endorsements, according to the website ChaCha. This compares to the 3.25 million-dollar-per-year salary he made as a player in 1991, according to NBA.com.
He is worth 525 million according to Forbes.com.
His endorsement of Hanes underwear products has resulted in him recently appearing in commercials with Charlie Sheen and Tiger Woods. In these commercials, Jordan appears as a quiet, suave portrayal of himself oozing with coolness while Charlie Sheen and others appearing in the commercials try somewhat unsuccessfully to win his approval.
His accumulated wealth has allowed him to acquire the majority shares of the Charlotte Bobcats franchise recently and to be an owner of an NBA basketball team.
He has famously endorsed Nike and Gatorade in the past during his basketball career. One Nike commercial featured Jordan describing and listing all of the times he had lost games and missed shots but expresses through his failures, he finds success. One Gatorade commercial uses Jordan as a role model and encourages the viewer to drink Gatorade to “be like Mike.”
He continues to earn capital from the endorsements of Nike and Gatorade.Sources
